John Howard Holland
John Holland was born in Sydney, N.S.W.
John first enlisted (Service No 2600) in November 1915 when he was 34 years of age. He was single, and worked as a groom. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT RMS Osterley with the Australian Remount 2, 3rd Reinforcement on 15th January 1916.
John arrived in Egypt in February and served in Egypt. He was returned to Australia in May 1916 and discharged on 17th June 1916 when the unit was disbanded.
John re-enlisted in January 1917 when he was living at Stanwell Park, N.S.W. but was discharged medically unfit in late January 1917.
On 5th August 1918 John enlisted again (Service No 66710). John was now 36 and still lived at Stanwell Park, N.S.W. with Emma Jane Holland. He embarked from Sydney on SS Wyreema on 14th October 1918 with NSW Reinforcement 22, however, the ship was recalled when the war ended and John was discharged from the AIF on 5th January 1919.
In 1941 he married Emma Mercer at Bankstown, Sydney.
John died in 1960.
