John William Brown (Service No 16872) was born in Sydney around 1895.

At enlistment John was single, 22 years old, worked as a shop assistant, and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.  John had served with 37th Infantry Militia.

He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A42 Boorara with the Australian Camel Field Ambulance on 10th May 1917.  Prior to embarking for Egypt, John had served in Military Hospitals in Sydney and then in Seymour, Victoria.

John arrived in Egypt on 20th June 1917 and served in the Middle East with the Camel Corps Field Ambulance until he returned to Australia in June 1919.

He was discharged from the AIF on 28th August 1919.

John died in Kiama, N.S.W. in 1964.
