Arthur Smith (Service No 4243) was born in Sydney in 1895.

At enlistment Arthur was single, 21 years old, worked as a blacksmith, and lived in Kiama, N.S.W.  He had served perviously with the Citizen Militia.

Arthur embarked from Sydney on HMAT A60 Aeneas with 2nd Battalion, 13th Reinforcement on 20th December 1915.  After arriving in Egypt he was transferred to 55th Batterym, 14th Field Artillery on 16th March 1916.

He was promoted to Shoeing Smith Corporal on 17th April 1916.

Arthur arrived in France on 25th June 1916 and was transferred to 13th Field Artillery on 9th July 1916.  He saw service on the Western Front and was promoted to Farrier Sergeant on 3rd October 1918.

In 1920 he married Rachel Freeman in Sydney and the couple raised a family.

Arthur died in 1950.
