Victor Henry Ambrose Brown
Victor Brown (Service No 21316) was born in Bulli, N.S.W. The family moved to the Tweed River in northern NSW when Victor was a child.
At enlistment Victor was single, 27 years old, worked as a farmer and had served 5 years with the Militia. He enlisted in Brisbane with his brother Harry Brown (Service No 21315) and the brothers embarked together from Sydney on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 9th Field Artillery Brigade, Brigade Ammunition Column on 11th May 1916.
Victor arrived in England on 10th July 1916 and joined 12th Field Artillery Brigade in France on 4th February 1917 holding the rank of Corporal, having been promoted on 10th November 1916.
Victor was promoted to Sergeant on 2nd June 1917.
On 22nd June 1917 Victor was awarded the Military Medal. Details about Victor's actions other than 'for conspicuous service' which lead to this award are not recorded on his official papers; the award was announced in the London Gazette of 16th August 1917.
Victor was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged medically unfit on18th August 1919.
On 13th April 1942 Victor enlisted for service in Mackay, Qld, serving as a Lieutenant (Service No Q215047) with 15th battalion Volunteer Defence Corps. Victor nominated Ivy Johnston as his next-of-kin, and served until 21st October 1945.
