Walter McAndrew (Service No 1526) was born in Kiama, N.S.W.

At enlistment in Lismore, N.S.W., Walter was single, 27 years old, worked as a carpenter and lived in Caboolture, Queensland.  He had served in the Navy from 14th October 1912 until 20th August 1913.

He embarked from Brisbane on HMAT A49 Seang Choon with 15th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcement on 13th February 1915.  After arriving in Egypt he went to Gallipoli landing with the first wave of troops on 25th April.

Walter was wounded in action on 12th May 1915 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of severe gun shot wounds to his left shoulder and lower body.  He was repatriated to Australia in July 1915 and discharged medically unfit on 19th January 1916.

In 1915 he married Ethel Wright.  Walter died in Brisbane in 1973 and is buried in Mount Gravatt Cemetery.
