John Henderson (Service No 6041) was born in Yackandah, Victoria around 1867.

At enlistment, he stated he was single, 43 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Scarborough, N.S.W. In fact, je was 49 years old. John listed his sister, Helen Wilson, of Helensburgh, N.S.W., as his next of kin.

He embarked on HMAT A18 Wiltshire, with the 3rd Battalion, 19th Reinforcement,  on 22nd August 1916. John arrived in England on 13th October 1916, and joined the 3rd Battalion in France, on 19th December 1916. He served until he was admitted to hospital on 21st January 1917, sick with debiility. John's age had caught up with him and he was returned to Australia in May 1917, due to being overage.

John was discharged medically unfit on 7th August 1917.
