William Drysdale
William Drysdale was born in Newcastle on Tyne, England and came to Australia with his family.
At the time of enlistment William was single, 22 years of age, employed as miner and resided in Helensburgh, NSW. He embarked on HMAT A72 - Beltana with the 30th Battalion, D Company on 9 November 1915 and arrived in Egypt on 11 December 1915.
William arrived in France on 23 June 1916 and survived the battle of Fromelle was wounded in action on 25th January 1917. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of gun shot wounds to both legs, his left leg was fractured, he was dangerously ill and on 23rd February 1917 his right foot was amputated.
William was repatriated to Australia in January 1919 and after further treatment medically discharged on 25 April 1921.
In 1921 he married Clara Pinkerton in Sydney, NSW. William died in 1966 and is buried in the Eastern Suburbs Cemetery.
William's cousin George Drysdale also served.
