Daniel Michael Baldwin
Daniel Baldwin (Service No 3802) was born in Kiama, N.S.W. in May 1888. The family later moved to Western Australia.
At enlistment Daniel was single, 27 years old, worked as a grocer and lived In Perth, W.A. He embarked from Fremantle on HMAT A31 Ajana Fremantle with 12th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement on 17th December 1915.
After arriving in Egypt he was posted to 52nd Battalion on 3rd March 1916.
On 9th June 1916 Danbiel was promoted to Lance Corporal and arrived in France on 12th June 1916. On 23rd June 1916 he was promoted to Corporal.
Daniel was wounded in action at Mouquet Farm on 4th September 1916 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of gun shot wounds to his head and arms. He recovered and returned to duty in France on 24th April 1917.
He was wounded a second time on 10th June 1917 while fighting at Messines in Belgium. He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a severe gun shot wound to his left leg and was lucky to aviod amputation.
Daniel was awarded the Military Medal on 23rd June 1917 but there are no details available for where or when his actions which resulted in the award took place.
He was repatriated to Australia in December 1917 and after further treatment in Australia was discharged medically unfit with a pension on 1st August 1918.
On 28th September 1929 Daniel married Violet Nesler.
He died in Perth in 1957.
Daniel's service is commemorated the Boulder Town Hall Roll of Honour, near Kalgoorlie, W.A.
