Walter Lindsay (Service no 2401) was born in Shellharbour, NSW in 1880.

At the time of enlistment Walter was single, 35 years of age and employed as a commercial traveller.  He embarked on HMAT A67 - Orsova with the 4th Battalion, 7th Reinforcements on the 4 July 1915.   He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey, arriving there on 28 September 1915.   

Walter became sick and was evacuated from Gallipoli, Turkey  28 October 1915 and admitted to hospital in Egypt on 13 February 1916 with Malaria.

Walter was sent to France on 30 March 1916 and where he served on the Western Front.  Walter was wounded in action at Pozieres, France on 18 August 1916 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left hand. 

Walter was transferred to the Australian Army Medical Detail on 4 June 1917 and served in England.  He was promoted to Corporal on 1 May 1919 and returned to Australia as nursing staff in August 1919.

Walter was medically discharged on 2 November 1919.

Walter died in Sydney in 1961.

Walter's brother Arthur Lindsay (Service no 4476) also served but was killed in a motor accident before Walter returned home.
