Ernest Hellmund (Service No 2836) was born in Queanbeyan, NSW around 1884.

At enlistment Ernest was single, 32 years old,worked as a labourer and lived at Coledale, NSW.

He embarked from Sydney on RMS Mongolia with 7th Light Horse Regiment, 19th Reinforcement on 8th July 1916.

Ernest arrived in Egypt and joined his unit on 12th August 1916.  While not wounded, Ernest suffered from appendicitis during his service.

On 18th July 1917 he was transferred to 7th Mobile Veterinary Unit and served in Egypt and the Middle East.

He was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 19th September 1919 due to the appendicitis.

Ernest died in Sydney in 1940 and is buried in the Eastern Suburbs Cemetery.
