Albert embarked on HMAT A19 Afric, with the 1st Battalion, A Company, on 18th October 1914. He arrived in Egypt in December 1914 with the first contingent, and after training, was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey. Albert landed on 25th April 1915, and served during those first chaotic days without wounding.
