Alfred Ernest Gumbleton (Service No 15297), was 30 years old and worked as a labourer when he enlisted.

On 8th February 1913, he married Lilian Fairhall, at Woonona, N.S.W. Alfred left Lilian and one child, when he embarked on HMAT A30 Borda, with the Army Service Corps, from Adelaide, S.A., on 6th January 1918. He arrived in England on 4th March 1918, and then went on to France, arriving on 1st April 1918.

On 27th January 1919, Alfred was injured, and treated for a fractured shoulder. He was returned to Australia in April 1919, and discharged medically unfit, on 8th June 1919.

Alfred and Lilian lived in Thirroul, N.S.W., and raised 4 children.

Alfred died in Gosford, N.S.W., in 1963.
