Richard Gilligan (Service No 50870), was born in Helensburgh, N.S.W. 

At enlistment, he was single, 18 years old, worked as a farm hand and had served 2 years with the Cadets and Militia.

On 8th May 1918, Richard embarked on RMS Osterley, with the General Service Reinforcement. He arrived in England on 10th July 1918, and joined the 35th Battalion, C Company, in France, on 17th October 1918. Richard returned to Australia in August 1919, and was discharged on 5th November 1919.
