William Verner Grey (Service No 2644), was born in Kiama, N.S.W.

At enlistment, he was single, 32 years old and worked as a dairy farmer.

William embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic, with the 45th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement, on 7th October 1916. He arrived in England on 21st November 1916, joining the 45th Battalion, in France, on 18th January 1917. William was wounded in action on 29th May 1917, and evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of severe multiple wounds to his face, shoulder, abdomen, thigh and buttocks. He returned to his unit on 30th November 1917, and served until the end of the war.

After a period of leave, for work in England, William returned to Australia in August 1919. He was discharged on 27th November 1919 and he returned to his dairy farm.

William died in 1974, and is buried in Kiama Cemetery, Bombo, N.S.W.
