Leslie Francis Lovell
Leslie Francis Lovell (Service No 2179), was born in Dapto, N.S.W.
He stated he was single, 18 years old, working as a farm hand, but he was 17 years old.
Leslie embarked on HMAT A42 Boorara, with the 54th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement, on 19th August 1916. He arrived in England on 13th October 1916, and joined the 54th Battalion, in France, on 24th December 1916. Leslie saw service on the Western Front and was promoted to Lance Corporal, on 4th October 1917. He was wounded in action on 18th April 1918. Suffering from the effects of a gas attack, Leslie was evacuated for treatment, returning to duty on 6th June 1918. On 5th April 1919, he was promoted to Corporal.
Leslie returned to Australia, in September 1919 and was discharged medically unfit, due to bronchitis, on 1st January 1921.
In 1955, Leslie married Rita Green, in Balmain, N.S.W.
Leslie died in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1961.
