Richard Long (Service No 274), stated he was born in Greymouth, New Zealand, around 1891 and had served 2 years with the Greymouth Volunteers from 1908 to 1910.

He enlisted under the name of Richard Long but his real name was Albert Edward Hillier.

Albert had a step brother, Charles Hillier, from Bellambi, N.S.W.

Richard stated he was single, 23 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W.

He embarked on HMAT A14 Euripides with 4th Battalion,  D Company, on 20th October 1914. Richard arrived in Egypt in December 1914, and was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey, with the 1st Brigade on 25th April 1914.

Richard was killed in action on 30th April 1915, and has no known grave.

He is commemorated for his service on the Lone Pine Memorial.
