Edward Davis (Service no 526) was born in Gloucestershire, England and emigrated to Australia.

Edward enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy in 1914 and employed as a 3rd class, Officers Steward.

His records note that he was imprisoned in Broome in Broome, WA in September 1914.

At the time of enlistment, Edward was single, 28 years of age, resided in Woonona, NSW and employed as a labourer.

Edward embarked on HMAT A40 - Ceramic with the 19th Battalion, B Company on 25 June 1915.  He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey with the 19th Battalion on 21 August 1915 where he took part in the battle for Hill 60.

On 29 September 1915 at Gallipoli, Turkey he was disciplined for smoking on duty in the trench. 

Edward was sent to France on 25 March 1916 where he faced a court martial for disobeying a lawful command and for striking an officer.  He was sentenced to death but his sentence was commuted to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour. His sentence was remitted and he was released from Gaol in France to return to his unit and duty on 12 October 1916.

On 28 March 1917, Edward was admitted to hospital with severe trench fever.  His recovery took some time and he experienced further health issues.

Edward was returned to Australia in January 1919 and discharged on 16 April 1919.
