Albert Edward Brew
Albert Edward Brew (Service No 1218), was born in Mirboo, North Victoria.
On 15th February 1911, he married Beatrice Hoffman, in Queensland, and they had 7 children.
At enlistment, he was married, 30 years old, worked as a diamond driller and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W.
Albert embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses, with Mining Corps, Company 3, on 20th February 1916. He arrived in France on 5th May 1916, but was admitted to hospital soon after, with influenza.
On 17th December 1916, Albert was promoted to Corporal, and transferred to 3rd Tunnelling Company, on 18th December, 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and was wounded in action, on 13th May 1917. Albert was evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his right arm and hand, returning to duty on 1st September 1917. He was returned to Australia in January 1919, and discharged medically unfit, on 3rd May 1919.
Albert returned to Victoria, and died there in 1963.
