William McAuliffe (Service No. 30939)  was born in Unanderra, N.S.W.  in 1895.

At enlistment he was single, 22 years old, worked as a miner and lived at Helensburgh.

William embarked on HMAT A29 Suevic with the Medium Trench Mortar Battery, 4th Reinforcement, on 11th November 1916.  He arrived in England on 30th January 1917.

Posted to the 4th Division Artillery in France on 27th April 1917 he joined the 10th Field Army Brigade on 23rd August 1917.

William was wounded in action on 12th September 1917 and evacuated to hospital for the treatment of severe gassing. He returned to his unit on 30th March 1918.

He was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 29th August 1919.

In 1920 he married Mary McDermott and they raised 4 children.

William died in Helensburgh in 1957.
