David Lewis (Service No. 421) was born in Gowerton, Wales round 1890.

At the time of enlistment he was a single 26 year old bank clerk. He listed his cousin Reverend John Beyon of Corrimal as next of kin. A letter from Rev Beyon on file stated he was a foster brother.

David embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses with Machine Gun Company 9, 5th Reinforcement on 25th October 1916. He arrived in England on 28th December 1916 and joined his unit in France.

On 11th February 1917 David was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left leg. David returned to his unit on 17th September 1917.

On 18th December 1918 he was transferred to the Pay Corps in London and promoted to Corporal on 1st February 1919.

On 17th February 1919 he was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and was critiically ill for some time. He was returned to Australia in November 1919 and discharged on 23rd February 1920.

After the war, David moved to Kalgoorlie where he died in 1931.
