Hubert Keon (Service No 1785), was born in Kiama, N.S.W., around 1882.

At enlistment he was single, 34 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Kiama, N.S.W. Hubert embarked on HMAT A15 Port Sydney, with 36th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement, on 4th September 1916. He arrived in England on 29th October 1916, and joined 36th Battalion, A Company, in the field, on 21st March 1917.

Hubert saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action, on 12th October 1917, at Passchendaele, Belgium. He was evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of facial abrasions. Whilst in hospital, Hubert met his brother John, who was a few beds away. This was the first time the brothers had seen each other since enlisting. Hubert returned to duty on 3rd December 1917. On 12th April 1918, he was wounded a second time, and sent to hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his right shoulder. Hubert was returned to Australia, in June 1919, and discharged on 25th September 1919.

Hubert is commemorated on the Kiama War Memorial.

Hubert's brother, John (Service No 2805), also served.
