Edward John Heininger (Service No 4207), was born in Dapto, N.S.W.

At enlistment, he was single, 21 years old, worked as a butcher and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.

Edward embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses, with 14th Light Horse Regiment, 34th Reinforcement, on 19th December 1917. He arrived in Egypt on 16th January 1918, and saw service in Egypt and the Middle East.

Edward was admitted to hospital on 8th June 1918, with malaria. He was returned to Australia in March 1919, and discharged medically unfit, on 24th May 1919.

In 1922, Edward married Elizabeth Sandon, in Wollongong, N.S.W.

Edward's brother Cyril (Service No 3390), also served.
