George Dowson (Service No. 3283) was born in Helensburgh, NSW and was a single 20 year old station hand when he enlisted.

He embarked from Sydney on board the HMAT A16 Port Melbourne with the 33rd Battalion, 8th Reinforcements on 16th July 1917.

Arriving in England on 15th September 1917 George went to join the 33rd Battalion in France on 28th January 1918. He saw service on the Western Front.

On the 1st December 1918 he was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and returned to Australia in January 1919. George was discharged medically unfit on 28th April 1919.

On 16th July 1920 he enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy and served as an Officers Steward Class 3 until his discharge on 16th June 1926.

In 1925 he married Edith Stone. George died in 1958.
