Kate Gallen was born in Kiama, N.S.W. and became a nurse in 1911.

At enlistment Kate was 30 years old. She embarked from Sydney on RMS Kashgar with the Australian Nursing Service.

Kate served in Egypt, England, and France.

She arrived in France on 15th July 1916 and served until 15th June 1917 when she terminated her service to marry, marrind Walter Head on the same day. T

Kate & Walter had one child.  They were divorced in 1929.

Kate died in 1940 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery, N.S.W.

Her service is commemorated on the Kiama Memorial Arch & Honour Rolls.
