Hugh Fraser (Service No 6261) was born in Glasgow in 1885.

At the time of enlistment Hugh was single, 31 years of age and employed as a miner in Balgownie, NSW.  Hugh listed his sister, Mary Fletcher, as his next of kin.

Hugh embarked on HMAT A14 Euripides with the 2nd Battalion, 20th Reinforcements, on 9 September 1916 for England on 26 October 1916.  He was sent to France on 18 December 1916 with his unit, was wounded in action on 29 December1916 and evacuated to hospital in England. 

Hugh had suffered a gun shot wound to his right leg and was deemed unfit for further active service. He was repatriated to Australia in July 1917 and discharged as medically unfit on 27 November 1917.

Hugh died in 1941.  His service is commemorated on the Balgownie Presbyterian Church Honour Roll & the Balgownie War Memorial 1914-1918.
