At enlistment, Arthur Edwards (Service No 7238), stated he was 42 years of age, a widower, and employed as a labourer and horse breaker in Wollongong, NSW.

Arthur stated he was born in Wollongong, NSW and listed a brother James in Western Australia as next of kin.

Arthur embarked on HMAT A46 - Clan Macgillivray withthe 3rd Battalion, 24th Reinforcements on 10 May 1917, arriving in England on 23 July 1917.

Arthur remained in England until he was returned to Australia in February 1918. He was deemed unfit for active service due to being overage and overweight and was discharged on 15th June 1918.
