Robert Grace (Service No 424/ 6193) was born in Sydney in 1893.

At enlistment Robert was single, 21 years old, worked as a bread carter and lived at Thirroul, N.S.W.  Initially assigned Service No 424, this appears to have been changed soon after he enlisted, to Service No 6193).

Robert embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 18th Battalion, A Company on 25th June 1915.   

Robert's NAA file does not hold any records relating to Gallipoli and the first entry is his transfer to 15th Company, Army Service Corps on 18th December 1915.

He arrived in France in March 1916 and saw service on the Western Front.  He spent lot of time in hospital sick and getting into a bit of trouble.

Robert was returned to Australia in December 1918 and he was discharged from the AIF on 24th March 1919 and he married Sarah Cunningham in Wollongong, N.S.W. later that same year.

He died in a nursing home at Randwick in 1921 and is buried in Bulli Cemetery, N.S.W.  Sadly his wife Sarah died the next year.

Robert Grace's service is commemorated at the Thirroul Woodward Memorial Park.
