William Evans (Service No 4111), was born in Spalding, England and enlisted in the Royal Navy, on 10th June 1909. He served on various ships, until discharged in Sydney, on 7th October 1913.

At enlistment he was single, 24 years old, was an able seamanand lived in Scarborough, N.S.W. He listed his brother, Henry, in England, as his next of kin.

William embarked on HMAT A67 Orsova, with 19th Battalion,10th Reinforcement, on 11th March 1916. After arriving in England in May, he joined 19th Battalion, C Company,  in France, on 11th July 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and has no wounding recorded.

On 12th August 1919, William married Ethel Wilson, in London, England. In October 1919, they returned to Australia.

William was discharged on 31st January 1920.
