Joseph Michael Brady
Joseph Michael Brady (Service No 6037), was born in Woonona, N.S.W.
At enlistment he was single, 20 years old, worked as a farm hand and had served in the Senior Cadets.
Joseph embarked on HMAT A11 Ascanius, with 19th Battalion, 17th Reinforcement, on 25th October 1916. He arrived in England on 28th December 1916, joining 19th Battalion in France, on 3rd March 1917. He saw service on the Western Front until 31st August 1918, when he was wounded in action, and evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of gun shot wounds to his back. Joseph was returned to Australia in January 1919, and discharged medically unfit on 3rd April 1919.
Whilst he was in France, the family had moved to Queensland, and Joseph joined them after he was discharged. He became a farmer on the Atherton Tablelands in Queensland. Joseph never married.
On 3rd May 1942, he enlisted for service in World War 2. Joseph served in 18th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (Service No Q221891), reaching the rank of Lieutenant. He was discharged on 30th November 1944.
