Spencer Stanley Seale (Service No 3223), was born in Sydney, in 1891.

Spencer enlisted with his brother, Harold, and at the time, he was single, 24 years old, worked as a warehouseman and lived in Thirroul, N.S.W.

Spencer and Harold embarked on HMAT A29 Suevic, with 18th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement, on 20th December 1915.

Spencer arrived in Egypt, and was transferred to 3rd Battalion, on 14th February 1916, arriving in France, on 28th March 1916. He was admitted to hospital on 17th August 1916, for treatment of trench feet, returning to his unit on 22nd March 1917.

On 5th May 1917, 3rd Battalion, 8 Platoon, B Company, were in a captured German trench, when Spencer was killed by an exploding bomb in the trench, during a counter attack. He received serious leg injuries and died soon after. There was no time to recover his body and he has no known grave.

Spencer is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial, at Villers-Bretonneux, France and the Thirroul War Memorial, Thirroul, N.S.W.
