John Kevan (Service No 58591) was born in Dapto, NSW.

At enlistment John was single, 20 years old and worked as a bank clerk with the Bank of New South Wales at Dapto.  He embarked for England with 1st to 5th (NSW) General Reinforcements in June 1918.

After he arrived in England on 26th August 1918 John served 2 months with 55th Battalion in France. He was discharged from 55th Battalion in London, and enlisted in 45th Royal Fusiliers for the Russian Relief Force.  John wrote home about his long boat trip and being on the front lines.

On 29th August 1919 he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left eye.  John lost his eye and was returned to Australia in March 1920.

John died in 1989.  His service is commemorated on the Dapto Public School Honour Roll .
