Harold Victor Hansen (Service No 6813),  was born in Corrimal, N.S.W., and attended Corrimal Public School.

At enlistment, Harold stated he was single, 18 years old, working as a butcher and had served in the Cadets, but he was only 17 years old. 

Harold embarked on SS Port Nicholson, with 1st Battalion, 22nd Reinforcement, as a bugler, on 8th November 1916. He arrived in England on 10th January 1917, and joined 1st Battalion in France, on 20th April 1917.

On 17th September 1917, he was wounded in action, near Polygon Wood, Belgium, and was admitted to hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his left thigh. He returned to duty on 15th November 1917.

Harold transferred to 18th Battalion, on 26th December 1917, perhaps, to be with his brother Herbert. He suffered from illness in 1918, and on 21st December 1918, he was transferred to 25th Supply Unit, until he was returned to Australia, in July 1919. Harold was discharged on 2nd October 1919.

On 11th February 1922, Harold married Ellen Donald, and they had 4 children.
