Evan Davies (Service No 3789) was born in Cardiff, Wales around 1887.

At enlistment Evan was single, 29 years old, worked as an engine driver and lived at Thirroul, N.S.W. Evan listed his brother William as his next of kin.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A54 Runic with 19th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement on 20th January 1916.

He arrived in Egypt on 26th February 1916 and remained there until going to England on 5th August 1916.

Evan was sent on to France, arriving on 8th October when he joined 19th Battalion on 17th November 1916.

On 13th May 1917 he was promoted to Lance Corporal and saw service on the Western Front until 6th October 1917 when he was wounded in Belgium and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of gun shot wounds to his left thigh and both arms.

Evan was promoted to Corporal on 11th October.

He returned to France on 6th September 1918 and was transferred to 18th Battalion on 11th October 1918 after the last of the Australian Infantry fighting was over.

Evan returned to Australia in August 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 2nd December 1919.
