Sidney Croft (Service No 1913) was born in Wollongong, NSW around 1894.

At enlistment Sidney was single, 21 years old and worked as a labourer. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A54 Runic with 17th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcements on 9th August 1915.

After arriving in Egypt he was sent to Gallipoli where he joined 17th Battalion, B Company on 12th October 1915.

After the evacuation of Gallipoli he went back to Egypt but due to medical issues remained there until June when he was sent to England.

Discipline issues kept him in England until April 1917.  He arrived in France on 11th April 1917 and took part in the second battle for Bullecourt in early May.

On 19th June 1917 Sidney was admitted to hospital with an accidental knee injury and sent to hospital in England.  He was deemed unfit for active service and returned to Australia in October 1917.

Sidney was discharged medically unfit with synovitis, right knee, on 27th February 1918 and was granted a war pension.

In 1918 he married Vera Milroy and they had 2 children.

Sidney died in 1962 and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery, NSW.
