Alexander Melvin Richardson (Service No 2711), was born in Stockton, N.S.W.

When he enlisted in Kiama, N.S.W., he was single, 23 years old, worked as a clerk and lived in Woonona, N.S.W. Soon after he enlisted, word arrived that his brother, Sergeant Harold Richardson, had been reported missing at Fromelles, France.

Alexander embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic, with 45th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement, on 7th October 1916. He arrived in England on 26th November 1916, and served in England for some time. Alexander joined 45th Battalion, in Belgium, on 21st October 1917 and saw service on the Western Front. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 5th March 1918, and was wounded in action on 5th April 1918, but remained on duty.

Alexander returned to England in late 1918, and was attached to HQ London on 30th November 1918. He was promoted to Corporal on 6th December, 1918.

Alexander returned to Australia in August 1919, and was discharged on 15th November 1919.

In 1932, he married Annie Rigby, at Bulli, N.S.W., and they had one child.
