Frank Ainsley Jones (Service No 3926), was born in Sydney, N.S.W., around 1893.

At enlistment, he was single, 23 years old and worked as a despatch clerk at the Portland Cement Company.

Frank embarked on HMAT A54 Runic, with 20th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement, on 31st January 1916. He arrived in Egypt on 26th February 1916, and then went on to France, arriving on 5th April 1916.

Frank joined 20th Battalion, D Company, in France on 2nd May 1916, as a signaler. He saw service on the Western Front until 28th July 1916 when he was wounded in action at Pozieres, France. Frank was admitted to hospital for treatment of a bullet wound to his scalp, returning to duty on 16th August, 1916.

On 16th November 1916, he was listed as missing, and his father, who lived in Balgownie, N.S.W., was notified. Frank was killed in action, in the attack at Flers, France, when he received a bullet wound to his head, and was killed instantly.

Frank is buried in Warlancourt British Cemetery, France, Plot II, Row J, Grave 31.
