William Owens (Service No 1442) was born in Bulli, NSW in 1893.

William enlisted on 30 August 1915 but was discharged soon after due to health issues. He re-enlisted on 24 April 2016 and at the time of enlistment was single, 23 years of age and employed as a postman. He had previously served a year with the St George Rifles.

William embarked on HMAT A72 - Beltana with 36th Battalion Headquarters on 13 May 1916 arriving in England on 9 September 1916.

William was posted to 9th Field Ambulance on 20 August 1916 and met up with his unit in France on 22 November 1916.

On 2 September 1917, William was posted to the 1st Australian General Hospital. William was returned to Australia in December 1917 where he was discharged as medically unfit on 21 March 1918.

In 1932 William married Annie Tregoning in Auburn, NSW.

William died in 1968 and is buried in Bulli, NSW.
