John Owens (Service No 1282) was born in Amlwych Wales in 1886.

At the time of enlistment he stated he was married, 29 years of age and employed as a miner in Woonona, NSW. He was married to Ellen and together they had 3 children.

He embarked on HMAT A38- Ulysses with Mining Corps, Company 3 on 20 February 1916.

He joined 3rd Tunnel Company in France on 5 May 1916 and served as a miner on the Western Front.

On 26 March 1918 he was wounded in action and admitted to hospital. He returned to his unit on 11 July 1918.

John returned to Australia in April 1919 and was medically discharged on 4 April 1920 after further treatment in Australia.
