Richard Jones (Service No 6179), was born in Lancashire, England around 1893.

At enlistment he was single, 23 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Scarborough, N.S.W.

Richard embarked on HMAT A11 Ascanius, with 17th Battalion, 17th Reinforcement, on 25th October 1916. He arrived in England on 28th December 1916, and joined 17th Battalion in France, on 10th April 1917. Richard saw service on the Western Front with 17th Battalion, until 20th September 1917, when he was wounded in action. His file does not state the injury, but he was sent to hospital in England, for treatment. Richard returned to France, and on 31st August 1918, was wounded a second time. He was evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right thigh. Richard was transferred to the Kit Store in London, on 5th December 1918.

Richard was discharged in London, on 6th July 1919, and remained in England.
