Victor Dibden (Service No 3040) was born in Balmain, Sydney in 1897 and moved to Thirroul with his family in 1905.

At enlistment he was single, 19 years old, and worked as a labourer; he had served with 37th Infantry.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A 68 Anchises with 34th Battalion, 7th Reinforcements on 24th January 1917.  The troops arrived in England on 27th March 1917 and Victor served in England until 17th November 1917 when he joined 34th Battalion in the field.

Victor saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 8th August 1918, however he was able to remain on duty at this time.

On 2nd September 1918 he was promoted to Lance Corporal.

Victor left England for Australia on 25th March 1919 and was appointed to the Military Police at sea on 3rd April 1919.

He was discharged on 13th May 1919 and received a welcome home being escorted back to his home from the station.

In January 1921, while Victor was working as a fuelman for the railways, he was involved in an accident and lost 3 fingers.  Also in 1921, Victor married Theresa Brinsmead at Bulli, N.S.W. and they raised 2 children.  Victor served as a member of the Thirroul Fire Brigade.

He died in Bulli Hospital in 1954 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery, N.S.W.  Victor's service is commemorated at the Thirroul Woodward Memorial Park.
