Andrew Devoto
Andrew Devoto (Service No 2599) was born in Manchester England in 1871.
He emigrated to Australia prior to 1911 and married Jessie Dryden in Sydney on 30 September 1911. Andrew and Jessie settled in Thirroul, NSW.
At the time of enlistment, Andrew was married, 39 years of age and employed as a Printer. He embarked on HMAT A68 - Anchises with 1st Pioneer Battalion, 5th Reinforcements on 24 August 1916 for England.
Andrew arrived in England on 12 October 1916 was sent to France, arriving there on 24 January 1917.
Andrew joined A Company on 18 March 1917. He served on the Western Front for most of 1917 and was sent to Musketry Class on 23 December 1917.
Andrew was admitted to hospital on 13 February 1918 and due to his illness was returned to Australia in April 1918. He was discharged from the 2nd Military District on 31 July 1918 as medically unfit.
In March 1926, Andrew and Jessie divorced. In 1926, at the time of his divorce, Andrew was resident at the Sacred Heart Hospice at Darlinghurst, NSW where he died in April 1926.
