Lawrence Delookery (Service No 3284) was born in Kilkenny, Ireland around 1876.  He arrived in Australia with his family on 13th May 1880.

In 1900 he married Mary Jackson in Woonona, N.S.W. but she died in 1903 in Newcastle, N.S.W.  In 1913 he was admitted to Wollongong Hosptial, N.S.W. for treatment of injuries he received when a victim of an assault.

Lawrence had enlisted on 28th April 1916 but was discharged medically unfit due to varicose veins on 26th May 1916. He had served 2 years in the Militia.

Lawrence re-enlisted at the age of 39 when he was working as a miner and living at Woonona.    He embarked on HMAT A55 Kyarra with May 1917 Reinforcements, Camel Corps.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 19th October 1917 and Lawrence served with 3rd Division Camel Corps in Egypt and the Middle East.

He was admitted to hospital in Egypt on 17th May 1918 suffering from bronchitis and transferred to the Light Horse Regiment detail on 1st July 1918.

Lawrence was returned to Australia in September 1918 and discharged medically unfit due to varicose veins on 2nd February 1919.

A letter on his NAA file indicates he was living in the bush at Kangaroo Valley, N.S.W. in 1935.

Lawrence's service is commemorated on the Woonona Public School Roll of Honor along with his brother Michael.
