Frank Askew
Frank Askew (Service No 2611) was born in Gateshead, Durham, England and came to Australia with his family in 1913.
At enlistment Frank was single, 18 years old, an apprentice letterer, and had served in the Cadets.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 45th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements on 7th October 1916. He arrived in England on 21st November 1916 and joined 13th Battalion in Belgium on 15th June 1917 and saw service on the Western Front.
On 1st November 1917 Frank was promoted to Lance Corporal.
On 7th December 1918 he was transferred to Australian Army Ordinance Corps in London.
He was promoted to Sergeant on 20th June 1919.
He returned to Australia in July 1919 and was discharged on 30th October 1919.
On 6th September 1921 Frank married Eileen Budrodeen, raised a family and worked as a stone mason.
Frank enlisted in World War 2 (Service No N104108) with 31st Garrison in Australia. He was discharged holding the rank of Warrent Officer 2 on 27th July 1944.
Frank died in 1971.
