William Keogh (Service No 2764) was born in Alpha, Queensland around 1890.

William enlisted in Brisbane at the age of 25.  He was single and stated his occupation as Bushman.  William nominated his father Joseph, of Helensburgh, N.S.W., as his next of kin.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A33 Ayrshire with 9th Reinforcements, 15th Battalion on 1st September 1915.  Willilam arrived on Gallipoli on 13th November 1915 and remained there until the evacuation.

On 16th March 1916 he transferred to 4th Pioneer Battalion and arrived in France on 11th June 1916.

On 15th August 1916 he was wounded in action and admitted to hospital for treatment of a shell splinter to his chest.  He was returned to his unit soon after but became ill and was admitted to hospital on 1st October 1916.

He was repatriated to Australia in September 1917 and discharged medically unfit on 31st December 1917.

His medical documents indicate serious mental problems and he was diagnosed as having dementia and awarded a pension. 

William's brother, Charles, also served.
