James Puckeridge (Service No 1714) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. in 1893.

For some reason, James enlisted using the name Joseph Puckeridge.  He was single, 22 years old, worked as a labourer.

James embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 2nd Reinforcements, 55th Battalion on 14th April 1916 and arrived in Egypt on 16th May 1916.

After some discipline issues he finally joined the 55th Battalion in France on 23rd September 1916.  He saw service on the Western Front but spent most of his time under punishment for various charges.  

On 21st May 1918 James advised the army of his real name.

He was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged on 13th October 1919.

In 1920 he married Rosina Digby at Maitland, N.S.W. and they had one child.

James died a the age of 37 in 1931, and is buried in Wollongong Cemetery.
