John Northfield (Service No 1455), was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.

At enlistment John was married, 23 years old, worked as a farmer and had served 4 years with the Light Horse Militia. He enlisted with his cousin, William, in Brisbane, Qld.

John embarked on HMAT A47 Mashobra, with 2nd Light Horse Regiment, 11th Reinforcement, on 4th October 1915.

After arriving in Egypt, he saw service in the Middle East. Like most Light Horsemen, John suffered from illnesses of desert warfare but did not have any woundings recorded during his service.

He was returned to Australia in March 1919, and discharged medically unfit on 16th June 1919.

John died in Roma, Qld in 1966.
