Joseph Eaton (Service No 1413) was born in Lambton, N.S.W.

In 1902 he married Mary Trevethan.

At enlistment Joseph was 35 years old, worked as a miner, lived at Bellambi, N.S.W. and he and Mary had 4 children.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A38 Ulysses with Mining Corps reinforcements on 20th February 1916.

Joseph arrived in France on 5th May 1916 and saw service on the Western Front on mining duties.

On 6th June 1916 he was admitted to hospital with a sprained back, but returned to duty on 31st July 1916.  On 1st October 1918 Joseph was wounded in action and treated for a laceration of his knee from barbed wire.

Joseph returned to Australia in January 1919 and was discharged medically unfit on 20th April 1919.
