John Schofer (Service no 3459) was born in Bellambi, N.S.W. in 1892.

At enlistment John he was single, 24 years old, and stated he was a traveller and mechanic on his enlistment papers.

John embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 9th Reinforcements, 53rd Battalion, on 24th January 1917.  He joined 53rd Battalion Wireless Section in France on 15th August 1917.

On 24th September 1917 he was admitted to hospital sick with Influenza and invalided to hospital in England where he was diagnosed with heart problems.

On 31st January 1918 John was invalided back to Australia and discharged medically unfit on 15th August 1918.

In 1924 he married Margaret Galvin at Paddington, Sydney.

John died in 1963.
