Zacharias Ward (Service No 6639) was born in Newcastle, N.S.W around 1885.  In 1906 he married Rachael Burrows.

At enlistment, Zacharias he was 34 years old, worked as a miner, and the family, which now included 3 children, lived at Scarborough, N.S.W.  Zacharias listed 4 months service from a 1915 enlistment on his enlistment documents.  

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A18 Wiltshire with 19th Reinforcements, 19th Battalion on 7th February 1917.  He arrived in England on 11th April 1917 and was sent to hospital sick almost immediately suffering from bronchitis.  He did not recover his health and was returned to Australia in November 1917.

Zacharias was discharged medically unfit on 1st March 1918.

He died in 1950 and is buried in Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W.
