Edward Dann (Service No 4109) was born in Dapto, N.S.W. in 1896.

At enlistment in Lismore, N.S.W. Edward was single, 19 years old, worked as a labourer, and lived at Woodlawn near Lismore. Edward had served 3 years in the Cadets and 1 year in the Militia.

He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A73 Commonwealth with 10th Reinforcements, 25th Battalion, on 28th March 1916.  The troops arrived in France on 5th June 1916 and Edward joined B Company, 25th Battalion in the field on 2nd August 1916.  He saw service on the Western Front and was in action during the battle of the Somme.

In May 1917 Edward was involved in the fighting at Bullecourt and was wounded by a shell explosion on 6th May. He was evacuated to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station having lost his right foot and the ankle, and with wounds to the buttocks.  

Edward died from his wounds on 7th May.  He is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery, France: Plot IV, Row B, Grave 7.
